There is no Federal deduction for rent -- only property taxes so if you
don't own a home, condo or land you're out of luck. The State
deductions vary state by state. Illinois is the same as Federal. As
for medical expenses, the non-covered amounts have to be greater than a
specific percentage of your income (I can't remember the percentage off
hand) but basically if you have decent insurance you probably won't get
a deduction for your out of pocket costs.
