Jai Srimannarayana!Sreemathey Ramanujaya Namaha!
Respected Bhagavtha Bandhus,
Srivilliputtur is the one and only divyadesam, which has a special credit to it, being the birthplace of 2 Alwars Periyalwar and his daughter Andal. It is significant that the temple tower is used in the Tamil Nadu government's official seal.
Aani Swathi, being the Thirunakshatram of an Acharya Vadakku Theeruveddhi Pillai & an Alwar Perialwar. On this auspicious day, let us pay our respects to the Acharya whose 2 glorious sons Pillai lokachariair and Azhagiya MaNavaaLa PerumaaL Naayanaar, became illustrous acharyas to our Sampradyam.
Now let us come to Perialwar, who after Parathva Nirnayanam, was honoured by the Pandian king by being taken in a procession mounted on a tall richly decorated elephant. As the procession emerged out, there appeared on the skies Lord Maha Vishnu on his Garuda, Perialwar spell bound
by the vision, sang "Pallandu Pallandu ............................................................"
The Lord thought, "This Alwar instead of praying is blessing us for long life", let me show how am I" Thus he showed his consort the piratti, in his chest, who never leaves him indicating the fact that he is lakshmi nathan (AgalakillEn eraiyum endru alarmEl mangai urai mArban')
Then Alwar again sang "Vadivaii Nen Vala Marbhinil Vazhgindra Mangaiyum Pallandu"
Now again the Lord thought, let me show this alwar, that I am sudarshana chakra dhari, showed his sudarshana chakra
Alwar sang "Vadivar Sothi Vala thuraiyum, Sudaraazhiyum Pallandu"
The Lord now decided & showed his Paanchajanayam
Alwar sang "Padaipor pukku muzhangum appapaanchajanniyamum Pallandu"
Now the Lord, Sriman Narayana, understood, that alwar out of his boundless love just like a mother who would be worried, that nothing harm could happen to her child, would do all things to safeguard her child, similary Alwar who out of "PONGUM PARIVU' did Mangalasasanams to prevent against any Kann Dhrishti for the longevity of Emperumaan, which earned him the Title "Periya" Alwar this is explained by Mamunigal in his Upadesa Ratinamala.
We are indebted to Swamy Manavala Mamunigal, who out of boundless mercy gave us all information, the birth details, avathara sthalams, nakshatra, and kainkaryams, of all alwars and acharyas (guruparampara details) in his upadesa ratinamala, in a time/situation, when Sri Rangam was in ruins and even ladies did not know how to put KOLAM (Rangoli) in front of their houses.
Most of us are not aware of the Thiruvarasu of Perialwar, which is in the gardens (maanthope) of Thirumaalirin Cholai Temple on the way to Nupura Gangai
Let us all sing Pallandu! Pallandu! to Perialwar, who sang Pallandu! Pallandu! to Emperumaan
Adiyen Ramanuja Dasan
