Seven universities affiliated with the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC) have opened their doors wider to international students under a new program called TIEC Study Abroad in Texas. Designed for undergraduate students who wish to pursue non-degree studies in the United States, this two-part program begins with intensive English-for-Academic-Purposes study at TIEP in Austin and continues with university study at the undergraduate level at one of seven Texas universities. Each part of the program lasts from four to six months, providing up to twelve months of academic experience in the United States. The program offers a broad range of academic programs, diverse universities and communities across Texas, full integration into the universities, and study with American classmates.
Universities participating in TIEC Study Abroad in Texas are Lamar University, Sam Houston State University, Stephen F. Austin University, Tarleton State University, Texas A&M International University, Texas Tech University, and The University of Texas of the Permian Basin. University Express (UEx) is a comprehensive, accelerated, and individualized academic preparation course of study designed to help highly-motivated international students meet the challenge of U.S. university standards. University Express accommodates students with low-intermediate to advanced English proficiency. The UEx admission requirements follow:
(1) The minimum TOEFL score requirement for admission to UEx is CBT 97 (PBT 400) for both high school graduates and university graduates. Minimum CBT or PBT essay scores are not required for UEX admission.
(2) GPA requirements are 2.25 GPA (high school) for prospective undergraduates and 2.75 GPA (undergraduate) for prospective graduate students.
UEx is a 12-month, year-round program with entry points in January, March, and August. Students who enter in March register and pay for a spring/summer session from mid-March to early August (18 weeks of instruction). Dates, costs, and an application form are available here.

Summer Study and Housing Package
Information on the TIEP Summer 2005 Tuition, Room, and Meal (TRM) Package with University Towers dormitory is available on the TIEP website. The TRM Package is an economical and convenient way for students to study at TIEP and live in a deluxe dormitory during the summer. Detailed information and an application form are available here. Conditional Admission and TOEFL Waiver to Texas Universities
TIEP is a division of the Texas International Education Consortium (TIEC). TIEC, established in 1985 and located in Austin, Texas, is a nonprofit association of thirty-two public universities in the State of Texas that are noted for their high quality and reasonable cost. The TIEC Gazette contains the latest news about TIEC’s programs and services.
TIEP has conditional admission arrangements with 11 TIEC-affiliated universities. Conditional admission provides a student assured admission to a participating university once he or she meets English-language or other specific requirements that the university may set.
TIEP has TOEFL waiver arrangements with 14 TIEC-affiliated universities. These 14 universities to waive the TOEFL score requirement for TIEP’s advanced-level students who have successfully completed TIEP’s English for Academic Purposes Program and who are seeking admission to their campuses.
