I'm thinking fuel pump. I've had similar events with
a 740 and a 240. You may also need to clean off
connections in the airmass meter etc. I know from
experience that the cars don't like to set. You can
clean the connections with a pencil eraser, then apply
some dielectric grease to keep the connection clean.
Two bits says Nick will have a good diagnosis....
